FAQ's

Q. Does Robacon build new roads and tracks, or repair them?

A. Robacon specialises in the repair of potholes and small damaged sections in all asphalt surfaces including roadways, tracks, paths and driveways. Robacon does not build new roads.

Q. What causes potholes and damage to asphalt surfaces?

A. Potholes can be caused by a number of contributing factors. Most potholes in Victoria are caused by a breakdown of the ground support below the asphalt surface which generally occurs when water penetrates the sub-structure creating a weak point in the pavement. The weight of vehicles and traffic passing over this weak point causes the sub-structure to collapse, which results in the breakdown of the asphalt surface above, resulting in potholes. The freeze-thaw cycle of ground water during colder winter months causes the expansion and contraction of the support structure and the pavement, resulting in an accelerated breakdown of the asphalt surface. Potholes can also occur due to the delamination of the top asphalt layer from its support layer below, often where roads and pavements have been resurfaced with a new top layer of asphalt. This form of damage is common during the hotter summer period when the various layers of asphalt are softened due to excessive heat from the sun.

Q. What is the best way to repair potholes?

A. There is no 'best way' to repair a pothole - there are a number of different repair options available based on a number of factors including the repair time to complete, the budget, and intended lifespan. A Quick Patch may be the best solution to limit the potential danger to motorists in a cost effective and timely manner (much like a 'band-aid') until such time that a more permanent repair system can be applied. At the other end of the scale, the PermaPlug system would be the best long term solution for a more durable permanent repair to your asphalt, but requires a few days of planning and is more expensive than a Quick Patch. Based on each situation and the customer requirements, Robacon will provide a range of repair options for you to consider.

Q. What does it cost to repair a pothole?

A. There are many factors that effect the cost to repair potholes and other damage to your asphalt pavement. This includes (but is not limited to) the extent of the damage, the location of the effected area, the repair technique employed during its repair, the urgency or the time-frame required to complete the repair, the extent of traffic management required to safely complete the job, and the individual budget of the client. Once an official request to quote has been received, Robacon will quickly assess the situation and provide a complete fixed cost to repair the damaged area at no cost to the customer within 24 hours.

Q. How long does it take to repair a pothole or a small damaged area in asphalt?

A. Many factors effect the time it takes to repair a pothole or a damaged asphalt section, however, this largely depends upon the extent of the damage, and the repair method which is employed. In some urgent situations, Quick Patch repairs can be completed within hours of receiving approval to proceed, whereas other more complex and permanent repair techniques may take up to a week, or longer, before construction commences, but in most instances they can be completed in a day or less.

Q. How long are Robacon repairs guaranteed to last?

A. Based on the unique characteristics of each individual repair, Robacon will provide a guaranteed life-expectancy for each job at the quotation stage, enabling customers to make an informed decision regarding the best repair technique to employ in line with their expectations. Every repair job is unique in some way and Robacon will ensure you have all the information required to make the best decision.

Q. What happens if the asphalt repair fails within the guarantee period?

A. Every Robacon repair comes with a performance guarantee (provided at the quotation stage), giving the customer the option to choose how long the repair will last, based on the repair method they select and the individual characteristics of the project. Most repairs are guaranteed to perform for a specified period of time and any failures that occur within that specified period will be repaired by Robacon without charge.

Q. Do I need to organise Traffic Management specialists for the job?

A. No. Robacon will manage the entire project from start to completion, including all Traffic Management requirements, in accordance with local safety and legal requirements

Q. Does Robacon use sustainable materials in its repair process?

A. Robacon can supply sustainable asphalt materials that reduce the volume of virgin products used in its Enviro-asphalt repair system. Waste products that would likely end up in landfill such as glass, old tyres, plastic, slag and old road pavement material are incorporated into the asphalt mixture to reduce the overall environmental footprint without compromising quality outcomes. Robacon also uses innovative petroleum-free water activated asphalt mixtures that do not emit VOC's (volatile organic compounds) or dangerous gases into the environment. These products are widely considered much safer and friendlier to the environment. Talk to us about these innovative products for your asphalt repairs.
